City & County of San Francisco COVID-Related Employment Protections Ordinance (Multilingual)

Effective March 7, 2021, the COVID-Related Employment Protections Ordinance prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of COVID-19 status. 

Employers may not fire, threaten to fire, suspend, discipline, or in any other manner take an adverse action against an employee who is absent or unable to work, or who requests time off from work, because the employee tested positive for COVID-19 or is isolating or quarantining due to COVID-19 symptoms or exposure. 

Furthermore, employers may not rescind an offer to employ or contract with an applicant, or decide not to employ or contract with an applicant, who has tested positive for COVID-19 or is isolating or quarantining due to COVID-19 symptoms or exposure.

The ordinance is in effect until March 6, 2023.
