Los Angeles County Beaches Closed for 4th of July Weekend

Officials announced this past Monday that all L.A. County beaches, piers, beach bike paths, and beach access points will be closed and patrolled by the sheriff’s department from 12AM Friday, July 3 at through 5AM Monday, July 6. In addition to beaches and parking lots being closed, no fireworks displays are allowed in the county, to discourage crowds.

This decision was made due to the high number of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations that continue to grow in L.A. County and, as of Monday, the total number of cases for the county surpassed 100,000. L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn tweeted, “We had almost 3,000 reported cases just today. We cannot risk having crowds at the beach this holiday weekend.”

Even with all the social distancing implementations in place, the amount of people who continue to gather in groups have hindered the recovery process while the number of positive COVID-19 cases keep rising. California Governor Gavin Newsom ordered to close several bars in the state's counties including many in Los Angeles.

This new temporary order makes it illegal to trespass at these beach locations and is punishable by law to include, but not limited to a $1,000 fine, officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lost Hills station said.
